Kuaka Wk 3: Response to Text Activity


Kia ora! And here is another task about the Treaty of Waitangi, but a response to text activity. As you can see, this is about reading this text called “Te Tiriti O Waitangi” which translate into “Waitangi Street”. This Google Slides is quite short, by the way.

First slide is about founding an image that shows each key vocabulary word from the text! If you go through the slides, you will see the words and the meanings I put in.

When I finished slide two and three, the others are questions. To get the answer, I must answer the following questions from the text. Which basically means skim and scan for the keywords in the text. Also, me and my group (Kuaka) must understand what the story is about. Then this task would be easier for us!

Acrostic Poem


This week we were learning about acrostic poem which is a verse form, we were also reading  poem called “Acrostic Poem” by Tim Upperton and it’s about lions finding a gap between the wire fence. We are learning to show a developing understanding of how language features are used for effect within and across this text!

Term 4 Literacy Goals

My Term 4 Literacy Goals for the next six weeks.

Reading
To get to the next level I need to:

1. I want to get better at sounding out new words I get stuck on,  by learning phonics. 

2. I need to skim and scan more often when reading. 

3. I need to get better at inference when reading between the lines.

I can help myself by:

I can help myself by reading online books or articles at home on my chromebook.  

I can help myself by playing an audio about a story at home.

Writing
To get to the next level I need to:

1. I want to correct my spelling when writing on my device or book. 

2. I need to always make sure I write capital letters and punctuation when writing. 

3. I need to always double check my writing before punishing it.

I can help myself by:

I can help myself by always writing a creative story every Saturday at home! And then getting feedback.

I can help myself by practising my spelling at home.   

This week my literacy class were writing their goals for Term 4. Our goals are all about our reading and writing. So here is my goals for reading and writing, but my main goal is to get better at my spelling because I am about to turn into a Year 8 next year!

Wa Panui


This week is Māori Language Week!, and my literacy class has been doing some Te Reo Māori reading tasks! we had to do pick a story or a poem on the 2nd slide. When we have finish reading it, we get started with the questions. The questions were kinda hard to some students, even me. But we soon understand it…I think? anyways! remember…’Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori’ which means ‘Making the Language Stronger’. Bye-bye!

A Brush with the Dark Side


This week we are learning about using the correct sentence structure, we had to read a story called “A Brush with the Dark Side”. We read the whole story, than answer some questions that are about what happen in the story, the characters, highlighting the independent clause & dependent clause and writing sentences!

Personification in Poetry


This week we are learning about Personification in Poetry! Personification is when you make an object or idea do something only a human can do. So in the 3rd slide, there are following statements and it’s our job to write the meaning to it. On slide 4, there is a poem about “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” by Tupac Shakur. Then on slide 5, we answer some questions that are about: What is the poem about? What is an example of personification in the poem? and what or who could the poem actually be about?
