Why is the Pekapeka Special? Poster – SLJ #23

This Kick Start activity is all about learning facts about the pekapeka! We’re creating a poster to share the most interesting information we’ve discovered and why it’s special. To start, I read through these facts and a transcript on Google Docs.

Once I finished that, I wrote down the interesting facts I found. One thing I didn’t know was that they’re actually endangered!! I had no idea this could happen to a pekapeka.

As for the main question: WHY is the pekapeka special? My answer is that they’re super special because they’re one of New Zealand’s only native land mammals! It’s a bat that can fly and crawl on the ground, which is pretty unique! The pekapeka is also important in Māori culture and has its own myths. Isn’t that awesome?!

I wish I could see an actual pekapeka – have you ever seen one before?

Totally Awesome Sea Turtles Poster – SLJ #22

Finally found the Kick Start activity from Totally Awesome Sea Turtles! This one is about writing at least five facts about sea turtles and finding a picture of one too. My poster has all the facts on it, and it turned out really interesting once I wrote them down.

Now, why are sea turtles AWESOME? In my opinion, it’s because they’ve been around longer than dinosaurs, travel thousands of kilometres across the ocean, and help keep marine ecosystems healthy. Plus, they can live for up to 100 years and are super important to our planet! 🐢

What about YOUR opinion on why sea turtles are awesome? I’d love to know! 🌊

Totally Awesome Sea Turtles Presentation – SLJ #21

This activity is about creating a presentation not just on saving our sea turtles, but also for the future. In my Google Slides, you’ll find three key questions: HOW are sea turtles becoming endangered, WHY does it matter, and WHAT can we do about it?

Each slide includes an answer I wrote after reading this, exploring this, and watching a video. I’ve also added visual elements like GIFs and eye-catching pictures to make it engaging.

This is an important cause because saving sea turtles helps keep oceans healthy. They support ecosystems like coral reefs and seagrass beds, preserving biodiversity and a balanced environment for future generations (e.g., 2025).

Shell-ebration Museum – SLJ #18

For the Step it Up activity of Shell-ebration, I am creating my very own digital museum. My digital museum is called “The Shelltastic Museum,” and it’s all about unique shells.

The fun part is, of course, decorating it and using gifs. But one part I found challenging was researching each shell, finding a fun fact, and where you can find it. I hope this information helps you discover these beautiful shells!

Each slide features FIVE unique shells that you can’t miss. One of my favourite shells from my museum is definitely the sixth slide. You’ll see which shell it is soon…

My Own Wanted Poster – SLJ #2

Kia ora! Today is another Summer Learning Journey but Step it Up activity, the other one was just a Kick Start─as in a quick practice. Anyways, for the Step it Up activity, I get to make my own wanted poster with another dangerous sea creature.

In my poster, there’s a small picture of my dangerous sea creature─The Great White Shark─with two boxes that each has an explanation for WHY is it dangerous and SAFETY tips.

HEY HEY HEY!! Do you know anything about dangerous sea creatures? I know that Great White Sharks are dangerous because of their big, sharp teeth 🦈🪥

Wanted Stonefish – SLJ #1

Kia ora! Today I have joined in the Summer Learning Journey, where I get to do fun learning activities over the Holidays. As you can see, my first activity is a Kick Start about creating a wanted poster for the Stonefish.

In my poster, you’ll be greeted by the huge and bold “WANTED” title above, a vintage paper background, a lot of research for safety tips and what to do when stung by a Stonefish, and lastly a HUGE no-colour picture of what a Stonefish looks like.

I wanted to create a poster-theme from a different time zone, approximately between the 90s. The reason why is because I wanted to try out different styles or time zone or even cultures for each of my activities-that would be MUCH more fun!

Anyways, would you make a poster from a different time zone? Have you ever encounter a Stonefish before (I haven’t because I have a phobia of the ocean)? Do you always feel insecure when swimming in the ocean?

Don’t be shy to leave a positive comment! 🎉

THREE FACTS ABOUT THE STONEFISH!:

1 – Stonefishes are consider to be one of the world’s DEADLIEST fish! 😱

2 – Did you know these stonefishes are extremely GREAT at camouflaging, what amazing hiders! 🤩

3 – They mostly spend their time just sitting motionless on the bottom of the seafloor, so keep an eye on the ground🧐

Sound Presentation Project – DLO

Kia ora! Yesterday was the day that me and my partner, Neomi, would present our SOUND presentation to Room 1. At first, we planned to do it on Thursday but Neomi insist on doing it right now on Tuesday. Now, it sounded insane to me but I eventually agree.

It’s not only us, our whole class is doing a presentation about sound. What sound is, how it works, and how human hear sound. You’ll hear all that in OUR presentation too, it’s really formal yet COLOURFUL and FUN!!

Because in our presentation is a quiz made by me, so if you want you can try and answer them by commenting down below. Be honest if you were listening or at least have the knowledge.

MARK: 24/24

Hiko – T4 W6 Mana Ako

Kia ora! Today in Mana Ako, we had to create a presentation about Hiko. But some people didn’t have their chromebook, so I had to share mine with Raphael. As you go to the next slide, you will see a certain question saying: “Our NEW understanding of the Hiko”. Everyone just finished watching a video about what has been happening currently, protesters, and Maori emerging together.

But one thing caught my attention, there were kids – As in little kids! Which is why I added “Hiko is open to everyone who supports the cause, regardless of age”. If you want, you can watch the video too.

Anyways, slide three and four are quick responses to us about “would you take part”.  Additionally, if me or Raphael are more likely to join in the protesting.

Please read our presentation, it’s only five super quick Google Slides. And leave a positive comment! ^^

Fakaalofa Lahi Atu! This week for literacy, we have a research task for writing. The topic is about Niue, and we needed to research it from a website on the second slide. You can see it if you want to learn about this amazing island too!

Spring Learning Journey – Fourth Activity
